Day 26

Day 25

Quarter of the way throught the project. Well done, lovely people.

Day 24

I blinking love this present, which was part of a wonderful package from my friend Nova. Also enclosed were many, many Hello Kitty stickers, rock, a letter, a card, a Hello Kitty keyring, a postcard, chopsticks and an actual physical CD literally filled with music. I couldn't have been happier, nor jumped around more. I love sending and receiving packages in the post. It is one of the finest things in life, in my humble opinion. Thank you Nova.

Ha!

Those lovely people at the One Hundred Days project website have featured me on the site again! Who knew drawing a tube of moisturiser could bring such fortune.

Day 22

I've had so little time to actually make these drawings - it's a busy period for everyone, I know - so I'm not entirely happy with them, but that's OK, I can dig that. I'm looking forward to seeing a change in the drawings in the new year, as I have more free time to do them. Though these have only just been uploaded, I'm enjoying the setting aside of 10-15 minutes each day to complete them. There's something very reassuring about getting one finished and scanning and posting it, a real feeling of community, as it's also a good time to go and check out what everyone else has been up to. I love this project.

Lovely gifts from lovely friends

I've received 3 wonderful gifts in the past week, all of which have made me so happy, I wanted to share them here.

I was given this beautiful ceramic piece by my friend Michelle, a wonderful up-and-coming painter and ceramicist, and a great friend. Michelle's pieces are abstract and minimal - delicate colours and soft lines are contrasted with a dark undertones of emptiness and space. Michelle's work largely concentrates on capturing the void, the space around and left behind by objects and ideas. I love her work and I was so thrilled to receive a piece of my very own. Thank you Michelle.
I blogged about Sandra's gift on Tuesday, which was a lovely surprise. The third gift I received this week was a fantastic package from Kate. Kate and I used to write to eachother when I was at university in Sheffield, and after: we would send letters and fanzines and sweets and stickers to each other. Every time I received one of Kate's beautiful letters or parcels, I'd squeal with delight - for one, Kate has beautiful handwriting, her letters looked like a piece of art and always contained some interesting news of bands she'd seen or things she'd been up to. Over the years we lost touch, but thanks for Facebook (good old Facebook) we've reconnected and decided, with our mutual penpal Nova, to send eachother packages reminiscent of when we were younger.
I'd had a particularly busy day at work yesterday (coupled with a fall on the way home due to the ice - youch) so was practically giddy when I saw Kate's parcel waiting for me when I walked through the door.
There was also a yummy chocolate bar in the package, but two guesses what happened to that :)

Of all the lovely pieces, this is my favourite: a cute little Korean diary with beautiful illustrations on the front. It even (almost) says my name on the front!

It means so much to receive such thoughtful gifts - I feel very grateful to have such lovely people in my life.

Wonderful surprise

After having a bit of a glum early morning, I went to the doormat to see if there was any post and was so happy to see a little square package with my name on it, with unfamiliar writing on the front.
I turned it over and it was from Sandra! I am so happy - thank you Sandra. I love everything.

Day 13

Funny how if I'm having a bad day, it's totally reflected in the way I draw. I'm not happy with this, but in the spirit of the project I decided to post it anyway - maybe confronting bad days and dealing with bad drawings face-on will make me a better person...

Day 11

Today was all about office work. I thought I'd reflect that in my pic. I stayed at work for ten and a half hours today. That's just not right. This is my home holepunch. I seem to be drawn to red things.

Day 10

God I love the necklace in this drawing. It's irrational; it's not one of those things you can explain; it just fills me with joy every time I look at it, and I feel super-empowered when I wear it. Maybe it has magical powers.

Day 6

Day 5

Day 4

Ugh. I hate this. I did it in a rush between rushing home from work and rushing out. I think the time spent on it is quite evident (around 6 minutes). But that's OK. This project is about improving.

One Hundred Days To Make Me A Better Person

I'm doing this project, see. I think you should too. You pledge to do one thing once a day for one hundred days, and it can be anything: ride your bike, say hello to a stranger, call someone you know for a chat, write a poem. Anything. I chose to draw a picture, and work on making something for someone I love. I'm already having a blast. I'm sorry I didn't think of it myself years ago.
